Bespoke Libraries & Studies by Proficiency
A home library is one of those projects where the details really show. Shelf depths that are actually right for books (most aren't). Consistent spacing between shelves. Ladders that work properly if you want them. Joinery that reaches the full ceiling height without looking like it's making an effort.
We design and build bespoke home libraries, reading rooms, and fitted studies from our North London workshop. Some are full rooms, lined floor to ceiling. Others are a single wall of fitted shelving in a living room or a run of desk and storage in a bedroom alcove. Either way, we approach them with the same care.

Bespoke Home Libraries
A good library is designed around what goes in it. We'll ask about your collection — how many books, what sizes, whether you have folios or large-format art books that need different shelf depths — and design accordingly. Adjustable shelving where it makes sense. Fixed where it looks better. Glazed upper sections to protect older volumes or display objects. Integrated lighting to make the room usable in the evening.
We build in painted finishes, solid oak and walnut, and veneered board. Ladder and rail systems are available and properly engineered, not decorative afterthoughts.

The impact of panelling lies in its craftsmanship and materiality. We work with a range of finishes including painted timber, oak veneer, and natural wood stains. We also incoporate custom paint colours from leading brands such as Little Greene and Farrow & Ball.
Our team also incorporates modern detailing, from reeded or slatted profiles to brushed metal trims, to suit contemporary interiors. Each finish is tested for durability, ensuring lasting beauty in high-use areas.
