The Company
Proficiency is an independent, London-based studio designing and building bespoke kitchens and joinery-led interiors. We work from a purpose-built workshop in North London, which means the people designing your kitchen are the same people making it — and you're welcome to visit and see your project taking shape.
We take on a limited number of commissions each year. That's a deliberate choice: it means every project gets the attention it deserves, from the first site visit to the moment the last door is hung.

A Proficiency kitchen isn't designed around a brochure. It starts with your home — the proportions of the room, how the light falls, how you move through the space, what matters to you when you're cooking, eating, or just making a cup of tea at 7am.
We build in shaker, in-frame, contemporary handleless, and classic styles. Every cabinet is made in our North London workshop, finished to order, and installed by our own team. Come and see the difference that makes.

Our West Hampstead showroom is open by appointment. It's a proper working space — you'll see real kitchen displays, handle the materials, and sit down with a designer to talk through your project without any pressure.
If you're still in the ideas stage, that's fine too. We're used to working through briefs from scratch.

What Makes PROFICIENCY Unique?
Everything we make is built in our own North London workshop — not outsourced, not flat-packed from a European factory. Our joiners work with both traditional hand techniques and CNC precision, which means complex detailing (think curved mouldings, hand-cut dovetails, integrated appliance housing) is done properly rather than approximated.
We also work closely with interior designers and architects. If you're working with a design professional, we're experienced at taking their drawings and turning them into fully realised shop drawings — and then into the real thing.
